How it works

Four steady steps, with an RN involved throughout.

We make it easier to move from uncertainty to dependable, RN-guided care at home.

01

Step 1

Begin with a free assessment

We respond quickly because families rarely have time to wait. An RN connects with you to understand your situation.

No paperwork, no pressure — just a real conversation about what care looks like for your family.

02

Step 2

Personalized, family-approved care plan

Your RN builds a care plan around your loved one's needs, routines, and preferences — reviewed and approved by your family.

Every plan is tailored. Nothing is assumed.

03

Step 3

Caregiver matching

We thoughtfully match you with a caregiver of your primary language whose approach and availability fit your plan, aiming for the same familiar person whenever possible.

Consistency matters. We work to keep the same caregiver so trust can build over time.

04

Step 4

Ongoing RN monitoring and weekly check-ins

Your RN stays involved — monitoring care quality, adjusting the plan as needs change, and keeping your family informed.

You're never left wondering. We stay connected so you can stay confident.

Family reassurance

You stay informed at every step.

We believe families deserve to feel confident about the care their loved ones receive. Our RN-guided model keeps you in the loop.

Understanding CDHCI

What is Client Directed Home Care Invoicing?

CDHCI is an Alberta Health Services program that gives eligible clients the freedom to choose their own home care agency — and we're proud to be a registered provider.

What is Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI)?

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is an option for Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) Home and Community Care clients to self-direct their own care. With CDHCI, clients choose an agency registered with Alberta Blue Cross. That agency provides services up to a maximum number of pre-approved hours per month as authorized by ALA, submits claims directly to Alberta Blue Cross, and is reimbursed for their services — so there is no out-of-pocket billing to the client for covered hours.

Who is eligible for CDHCI in Alberta?

You may be eligible if you have a valid Alberta Health Care number and live in a community setting. Your ALA Case Manager must assess you as needing home care services and determine that CDHCI is a suitable model for your care needs. There must also be no conflict of interest with other ALA policies or service agreements, and you or the person managing your care must be willing and able to assume the responsibilities of self-directing your care. Importantly, you do not need an Alberta Blue Cross plan to be eligible for CDHCI.

What services are covered under CDHCI?

Services are determined by your Home and Community Care assessment and may include: personal care (hygiene, dressing, toileting, mobilization and transferring, home exercises, nutrition, medication assistance, and respiratory care); homemaking tasks that are essential to keeping you safely in your home and directly related to health maintenance; and respite care to give your informal caregivers a break when you cannot safely be left alone, as determined by your ALA Case Manager.

Are there any limits on homemaking services?

Yes. Homemaking tasks under CDHCI must be directly related to health maintenance and are not available as stand-alone services. ALA may limit their scope at its discretion. You are expected to explore other service agencies and options for homemaking tasks before they are considered for inclusion in your CDHCI plan. Personal care and respite care are generally the primary services covered.

Is Family Choice Home Care CDHCI approved?

Yes. Family Choice Home Care Services Airdrie is a CDHCI-approved agency registered with Alberta Blue Cross. We handle the claims process directly with Alberta Blue Cross so your family can focus entirely on care — not paperwork.
